Project Report - Interview
March 2024
Why is Debrunner Metallservice investing in a new slitting line?
Beyond safety risks and outdated technology, time was a decisive factor. Our 33-year-old system simply couldn’t keep pace with the speed and flexibility our customers require today. With the new fully automated slitting line, set-up and production times have been significantly reduced. Our processing capacity has now doubled from 5,000 to 10,000 tonnes.
«We’ve doubled our production capacity»

Noticeably shorter processing times and increased production capacity
Thanks to automation, set-up times are significantly reduced. Capacity increases from 5,000 to 10,000 tonnes. With shorter lead times and improved availability, you can strengthen your market position with our support.
What challenges - beyond the construction work - did you face during this project?
First, we had to assess whether there was sufficient market demand for slit coil processing. Based on those findings, we then evaluated which supplier and machine type would best meet the market’s technical and commercial requirements. Subsequently, we reviewed the implementation options at our two sites: Menziken and Sennwald.

The decision was made in favour of Sennwald. What does this mean for the Menziken site?
Once the new slitting line is operational in Sennwald, we will decommission the older line in Menziken. We plan to repurpose the freed-up space in a way that adds value for our customers.
When will the new line go into operation?
If all goes to plan, we expect to begin slitting the first aluminium coils on the new line later this year.
